John (Jack) Hewes Chief Lending Officer

John (Jack) Hewes is chief lending officer and oversees the company’s loan pricing, underwriting review, collection activities and portfolio management.

He joined Sallie Mae in March 2008 as chief credit officer.

Previously, Mr. Hewes was with MBNA, the world’s largest independent credit card issuer, for more than two decades, where he led the consumer finance and business lending divisions. Before that, he worked for 16 years at Household Finance where he was responsible for branch offices throughout Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia before becoming a part of the executive team that led Household into the banking business.

Mr. Hewes is currently a Board Member of Digital Sports and Villa Maria Academy H.S., as well as a past Trustee of Gettysburg College and Executive Member of the Board for Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Delaware.
